Looking for Ultem® as a Plastic Body Material? We’ve got it, and our option just got better!

Smart Products has offered Ultem® 1000 as a body material solution for many years, and now we have enhanced this option by introducing Ultem® HU1000 for customers needing  EU, Class VI, or ISO 10993 compliancy.

“This change means customers now have a choice between polycarbonate or Ultem® HU1000 if they are required to meet certain standards, such as Class VI.  Before, we could only offer polycarbonate to meet this need,” says Director of Sales & Marketing Cathy Jernigan.“

Additionally, Ultem® can also handle higher operating temperatures and chemical resistance versus polycarbonate. 

Ultem® HU1000 is especially beneficial to the food and beverage, water, chemical processing, as well as medical and pharmaceutical industries because of the new compliancy feature.

Jernigan adds, “In addition to this new body material being Class VI compliant with these types of applications, we offer o-rings that also meet industry requirements and have a clean room, if necessary, for molding and assembly of the valves.”

“Switching to Ultem® HU1000 will not affect customers currently using Ultem® 1000 because they share the same characteristics – there is absolutely no difference in form fit or function – only the added benefit of being Class VI compliant,” continues Jernigan. 

Characteristics of Ultem® include:

  • Semi-transparent
  • High Temperature resistance ranging from 200°F to 450°F
  • Good flame resistance
  • Able to withstand gamma radiation, ETO radiation, autoclaving, and steam sterilization, as well as ozone
  • Compatible with a variety of chemicals including oils, greases, lipids, detergents, disinfectants, lactic acid, Freon, acetone, certain sodiums, and most caustic fluids
